Due to a risk of salmonella contamination, Black Sheep Egg Company has recalled some of its free-range large grade A brown egg cartons, according to federal health authorities.

A recall was launched by Black Sheep Egg Company following a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection that revealed salmonella in 40 environmental samples collected at its egg processing plant.

The FDA stated that some of the identified strains “are known for causing illness in people.” The FDA also noted, however, that current data does not point to this company as the source of a current outbreak.

In addition to the Black Sheep Egg Company recall, the FDA is putting out an alert advising consumers, retailers, and distributors to avoid consuming, selling, or distributing the recalled Black Sheep Egg Company products.

The recall affects the company’s 12- and 18-count cartons with “best by” dates from Aug. 22, 2025, to Oct. 31, 2025. The FDA also stated that the Arkansas-based egg producer distributed eggs to other businesses in Arkansas and Missouri between July 9, 2025, and Sept. 17, 2025, which may have repackaged them.

According to federal authorities, the products may have been distributed further to other states. As more information becomes available, any additional products impacted by this recall will be added to this advisory.
