Amazon Prime Video has been increasing its output of sports documentaries, though sports documentaries are not a new thing on the platform.
While Prime Video’s sports documentary selection may not be as extensive as those of its competitors, it does include documentaries about some of the biggest names in the sports world.
This month features new Prime Video documentaries about NFL running back Saquon Barkley and NBA legend Allen Iverson.
You can find these two documentaries, along with other must-see Prime Video sports documentaries, in Watch With Us‘ recommendations.
‘Saquon’ (2025)
Saquon Barkley is the running back who made the incredible play for the Philadelphia Eagles where he jumped over another player while facing the other way. He has established himself as one of the NFL’s top players. However, there was a period when his career appeared to be over.
Barkley’s ACL tear five years ago cast doubt on his recovery. Saquon is essentially a video diary of Barkley’s life during a turbulent period, as he left the New York Giants and found success with the Philadelphia Eagles. Adding to the extraordinary nature of his story, the documentary also covers Barkley’s appearance in the 2025 Super Bowl, which occurred on his birthday.
Saquon can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘Allen Iverson’ (2025)
Allen Iverson was undoubtedly one of the NBA’s best players during his career. His innate basketball talent was unmatched by many. Despite his achievements on the court, Iverson faced challenges off the court, including a conviction for fighting that could have resulted in a five-year prison sentence, though the sentence was later overturned.
The Allen Iverson documentary series provides its subject with the opportunity to contemplate his life and influence on the sport. Though Iverson never won an NBA title, his impact on the game’s culture was significant.
Allen Iverson can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘Bye Bye Barry’ (2023)
Barry Sanders, the Detroit Lions running back, was among the NFL’s elite players during his career. He consistently delivered outstanding performances, and records seemed destined to fall. However, in 1998, Sanders abruptly retired without much fanfare, just before reaching significant milestones.
Bye Bye Barry is a biographical documentary that allows Sanders to fully explain the reasons behind his decision. At the time, Detroit football fans were not very understanding of Sanders’ choices. However, with time, his legacy has been cemented.
Bye Bye Barry can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘Game 7: Cubs vs. Indians 2016’ (2025)
Game 7 is a collection of standalone films that loosely chronicles some of baseball, hockey, and basketball’s most memorable playoff series. These three sports all have a playoff system that can culminate in a decisive game 7 where the winner takes all.
Cubs vs. Indians 2016 is a standout among these, considered one of the greatest MLB playoff games ever. The game was dramatic enough for a movie, beginning with a home run and ending with a rain delay before the decisive 10th inning. Entering the game, neither the Chicago Cubs nor the Cleveland Indians had won a World Series title in decades. By the end of the game, one of the long losing streaks had ended.
Game 7: Cubs vs. Indians 2016 can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘One Man and His Shoes’ (2021)
Marketing endorsements have grown significantly in sports over the past half-century, but none have reached the explosive heights depicted in One Man and His Shoes. Even now, it is hardly necessary to mention that the one man is Michael Jordan, or that his Air Jordan sneakers transformed sneakers for decades.
This could have been a mere documentary where Nike boasts about its success and enjoys its prosperity. However, this film was made without Nike’s involvement, and it explores issues the company likely wants to forget. The demand for these shoes became so high that people were killed for them. Being robbed for Air Jordan shoes was a persistent issue for many years, and some of the victims’ families speak about their experiences in this film.
One Man and His Shoes can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory’ (2022)
Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory is a documentary in Spanish that examines the career of Hugo Sánchez, one of Mexico’s greatest soccer players. He is also widely regarded as one of the best international football players ever.
The documentary covers most of Sanchez’s career stops over his 20-plus years as a professional, including his time with the renowned Real Madrid team, where he solidified his reputation by scoring many goals each season.
Hugo Sánchez, the Goal and the Glory can be streamed on Prime Video.
‘The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain’ (2015)
The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain has a somewhat misleading title, considering there is no actual identity theft involved. Matthew Wolfe, the director, apparently chose it as a playful title while recounting the story of former college football quarterback Mitch Mustain.
Mustain was once ranked as the No. 1 high school quarterback in the nation, and he was undefeated during his first college stint at Arkansas. However, after transferring to USC, Mustain never achieved the same level of form or success. This is not a story about someone falling from grace, but it does examine what can happen when the gap between a player’s ambitions and reality is too wide to overcome.
The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain can be streamed on Prime Video.
