Andrei Castravet, a star of 90 Day Fiancé, posted a heartfelt tribute to the father of his wife, Elizabeth Castravet, after his passing.
Andrei, 39, took to Instagram on Tuesday, November 25, to pay tribute to his father-in-law, describing the video as “difficult to create” before referring to Chuck Potthast as “a man who mattered a lot” to their family.
“It has been incredibly, incredibly difficult for us,” Andrei shared with followers in the video, which was recorded in his car. “I know there have been dramas, tensions, and storylines throughout the years, but what viewers saw on TV is merely a small part of our actual relationship. What I can say is that Chuck truly enjoyed filming. He enjoyed the energy, the excitement, he really did. The connection of us all … he loved people in general.”
Elizabeth and Andrei announced Chuck’s passing in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, November 23. The post stated that Chuck, who had been a part of the TLC reality series since the family’s season 5 premiere, passed away “two weeks ago.”
Throughout the family’s depiction on television, Andrei was frequently shown to be in conflict with Chuck. During his tribute, Andrei stated that despite their on-screen disagreements, they were close.
“Some of my favorite memories are from behind the scenes, when we’re laughing, talking, and joking about how we’re arguing on TV, but in reality, we’re getting along … like best friends,” he told viewers. “That’s how I’ll remember him.”
On the show, Chuck once criticized Andrei for being jobless and failing to care for his and Elizabeth’s home, among other charges. Despite Andrei joining Chuck’s property management company, tensions between Andrei and Chuck’s family persisted for years, and in 2021, Andrei was involved in a physical altercation with his brother-in-law Charlie, which was broadcast on television.
Andrei hinted at difficulties in his relationship with Chuck in his tribute, but stated he was not yet ready to reveal any specifics.
“I want to clarify that the rumors and clickbait circulating right now are false. I will discuss what happened later in a respectful manner. For the time being, I simply want to honor him,” he told his followers. “There is much more to say about our true connection and the truth behind everything. Chuck, may he rest in peace.”
The news of Chuck’s death, shared by Elizabeth and Andrei, surprised fans of the show. “Our family has been struck by tragedy, and we are completely devastated. My wonderful, loving, and caring father has gone to heaven. We are trying to figure out how to move forward and navigate our lives without him,” Elizabeth wrote at the time. “Please respect our privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
The couple initially connected on a dating app before meeting in person in Dublin and marrying in 2017. Since then, they have had daughter Eleanor and son Winston in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
