Ex-Penn State, Ohio State Athlete Faces Homicide, DUI Charges Following Girlfriend's Deadly ATV Accident

A former football player from Penn State is being charged in connection with an ATV accident in May that resulted in injuries to himself and the death of his girlfriend.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Julian Fleming, 24, and Alyssa Boyd, 23, were traveling on a rural road in Bradford County, near the Pennsylvania-New York state line, on the night of May 22 when they collided with a deer.

However, documents obtained by TMZ Sports indicated that Fleming’s blood-alcohol level was .118 shortly after the accident.

Fleming has been charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, and aggravated assault by vehicle.

Fleming’s attorney, David Bahuriak, told TMZ Sports, “In my opinion, the prosecution has taken a tragic and unavoidable accident and transformed it into a crime, despite the facts not supporting that. The facts do not support criminal homicide.”

According to The Citizens’ Voice, police reported that neither Fleming nor Boyd were wearing safety gear.

Fleming, a prominent wide receiver, played for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2020 to 2024. After an outstanding career at Southern Columbia High School in Pennsylvania, he committed to Ohio State. In 2020, he was the state’s top prospect.

Before the 2024 season, he transferred to Penn State to use up his remaining NCAA eligibility.

Last season, he participated in 16 games for the Nittany Lions, recording 14 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown. During his 38 career games at Ohio State, he had 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns.

Fleming signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent. However, after he failed a physical with the team, his contract was revoked.

According to the New York Post, Boyd sustained “extensive injuries” in the accident and died at the scene. She was a student at the University of Alabama.
