Nicole Kidman reflected on the motivations behind her constant pursuit of new roles.
“There’s an abundance to express, yet time feels limited. Subjects like death, life, joy, sorrow, loss, sexuality, our purpose, the essence of truth and its necessity,” the actress shared in a Vogue interview released Wednesday, October 8. “What defines us as human? Do parallel universes exist? What awaits us? Do we even ponder it? Is our existence a dream? What constitutes reality? Where is our path leading? Why am I perpetually engaged in work?”
Kidman then responded to her own inquiry, “Why halt? Restraining me would require physical force!”
Over the past couple of years, Kidman has been seen in numerous movies, such as Holland, A Family Affair, Babygirl and also lent her voice for a role in the animated picture, Spellbound. Furthermore, she’s played roles in various TV shows, including Nine Perfect Strangers, Lioness, Faraway Downs, Expats and The Perfect Couple. She has also contributed behind the camera on projects like The Last Anniversary.
Kidman maintains her busy schedule with several projects planned for the upcoming year. She is set to star in the highly anticipated sequel to Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock, in addition to the Scarpetta TV series alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. Kidman has also committed to joining the Apple TV series Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
“I adore acting in scenarios where I’m unsure of the outcome. I relish stepping outside my comfort zone into a realm of… almost uncontrolled descent,” she conveyed to the publication regarding her enthusiasm.
Despite her packed schedule, Kidman hinted at “thinking about writing,” although nothing is concrete.
“I’m amassing a wealth of ideas within my consciousness,” she considered. “[It might become] a necessity. There’s so much to convey, yet time is fleeting. Topics like mortality, existence, happiness, pain, bereavement, intimacy, our reason for being, the nature of truth and its relevance.”
Kidman mentioned that she’s “always” open to “embracing risk.” Should things not succeed, the Oscar winner believes in rising and “attempting again.” Kidman readily incorporates her life’s experiences, both positive and negative, into her craft.
“I channel it into my work. That’s the advantage of my profession,” she stated. “There’s a space for these emotions to surge, diminish, process [and] uncover.”
Recently, Kidman experienced personal sorrow as she initiated divorce proceedings from Keith Urban, her husband of almost 19 years. According to legal documents accessed by Us Weekly, Kidman cited irreconcilable differences and has requested to be the primary residential guardian of their two daughters: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
Following the announcement of their unexpected separation, an insider exclusively disclosed to Us that Kidman and Urban had been leading “separate lives.”
“Nicole and Keith were not in agreement. … Their paths were diverging, and they were not as connected as they once were,” the insider clarified. “The increasing distance between them had become more noticeable of late.”
