Taylor Swift Discusses Zoe Kravitz Snake Encounter on "Seth Meyers"

Zoe Kravitz and Lisa Bonet’s pet snake incident in Taylor Swift’s Los Angeles residence is being recounted from Swift’s perspective.

The snake drama unfolded after the 35-year-old pop star offered her home to Kravitz, 36, and her mother, Bonet, 57, who were evacuating from the California wildfires earlier in the year. According to Kravitz’s August appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Bonet’s reptile, named Orpheus, had slipped into a small opening in Swift’s bathroom. Bonet caught Orpheus by the tail, and Swift’s house manager used a crowbar to “destroy” the bathroom in order to retrieve the snake, Kravitz recounted.

Almost two months after Kravitz shared her Late Night story, Swift gave her version of events on Meyers’ NBC program on Wednesday, October 8.

“I want to start by saying that we all have that one friend,” she joked with Meyers, before adding, “I remember my head of security calling me and trying to explain what happened.”

Swift said her initial reaction was, “What snake?”

“I found myself listening to this,” she remembered. “And I’m thinking, ‘Uh-huh, OK, OK.’ And I hate to name friends by their first and last names, but it’s important in this case. So, Zoe Kravitz and Lisa Bonet are holding a Burmese python that’s halfway inside the wall. A man with an ax is standing there, and he has just chopped up a custom vintage antique cupboard.”

Swift went on, “There are splinters everywhere. In my head, they’re looking over their shoulders. It’s like an Annie Leibovitz photoshoot. … It’s the most stylish thing I’ve ever heard. Zoe is wearing The Row from head to toe. I’m thinking, ‘This is a YSL ad, not a problem.’”

She then said, “It sounds incredible. I wish I had been there to see it.”

Swift mentioned that she couldn’t “even be mad,” and she admitted that she didn’t immediately tell Kravitz that she knew about the snake and the damage to the furniture.

“I played a little game in my head because I know her well enough to know that she won’t mention it until it’s been taken care of,” she explained. “I know her very well. … I started a countdown on my phone and counted the days. I think it was around three weeks, which was the exact time it took to repair the damaged cupboard.”

Swift recounted that when Kravitz finally confessed, she was “sitting at my house.” Swift recalled, “She said, ‘Hey, I want to tell you about something that happened, now that it’s fixed.’ I responded with, ‘You had a snake in the house that got loose and ended up in the wall, so they needed an ax to get it out, and they —’ and she cut me off and said, ‘I told them not to tell you.’”

Swift then told Kravitz, “I’ve been laughing about this for three weeks.”
