The father of Jaxson Dart reportedly communicated via text with Lane Kiffin regarding the possibility of Kiffin coaching the Giants.

The New York Giants’ record stands at 2-7 for the third consecutive year, intensifying the pressure on Brian Daboll.

Daboll’s arrival in 2022 brought Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley together. The Giants reached the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record, earning him Coach of the Year honors. However, the subsequent three seasons have been disappointing.

Despite the struggles, quarterback Jaxson Dart, acquired in an April trade, represents a silver lining in East Rutherford.

With Daboll’s contract expiring after next year, the Giants facing another losing season, and the college coaching landscape in flux, speculation has arisen about Lane Kiffin, Dart’s former coach at Ole Miss, potentially replacing Daboll.

Brandon Dart, Jaxson’s father, mentioned texting Kiffin personally in “our Kiffin-Dart family text thread.”

“Boomer Esiason suggested in the media that they should consider offering Kiffin a coaching position, and he responded with a smirk, saying, ‘It’s too cold in New York for me.’ It’s quite amusing,” Dart’s father shared on the “Bleav in Ole Miss” podcast.

“We maintain weekly contact with him and his family, and Jaxson greatly respects him. Kiffin is a trusted confidant, offering advice in various aspects.

“There’s ongoing communication between them, even now, fostering a strong bond between our families. We couldn’t have hoped for a better coaching relationship between our family and our son. We’re immensely grateful for Coach Kiff.”

Dart, selected as the 25th overall pick, has been impressive since becoming the starter in Week 4, although the team’s performance hasn’t fully reflected his efforts.

The Giants secured a win in his debut start, but Dart faced rookie challenges against the New Orleans Saints the following week. They then surprised the Philadelphia Eagles at home but became the first team to concede 33 points in the fourth quarter in a heartbreaking defeat the subsequent week. After another loss to the Eagles, their losing streak extended to three against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

In his six starts, Dart has amassed 15 total touchdowns (10 passing, five rushing) with only four turnovers and a 62.3 completion percentage. Despite losing top receiver Malik Nabers in his first start and rookie sensation running back Cam Skattebo in Week 8, he’s been hampered by crucial drops.

Daboll’s record with the Giants stands at 20-39-1, with nearly half of those wins occurring in his initial season. Following that, they went 6-11 and 3-14 in what is largely regarded as the franchise’s worst season.
