According to a Joint Base Andrews representative, a number of individuals are experiencing illness following the opening of a suspicious package at Joint Base Andrews around 1 p.m. on Thursday.

According to authorities, base medical staff responded without delay and administered treatment to several people who reported feeling unwell. All patients were reported to be in stable condition and were later discharged.

“As a safety measure, the building and an adjacent building were emptied, and a safety perimeter was set up around the area,” the representative stated in a statement to Fox News. “Joint Base Andrews first responders were sent to the location, found no immediate dangers, and regular activities have been restarted. An investigation is currently underway.”

Officials have not revealed the package’s contents or the potential cause of the symptoms. While emergency teams evaluated the situation, the base was briefly placed on lockdown.
