Peacock Axes Natasha Lyonne's 'Poker Face' Yet Recasting Is in the Works

The year 2025 has been tough, marked by the cancellation of many of our beloved television programs.

Netflix decided to end Girls5eva, despite having rescued it from being axed previously. This musical comedy, which initially debuted on Peacock in 2021, revolved around four women who had once been members of a girl group. Having experienced brief success, the former friends reunited later in their lives to try and recapture their musical glory.

Girls5eva received a renewal for its second season, but Peacock opted not to commission additional seasons. Consequently, the show transitioned to Netflix for its third season, which ultimately became its last.

The primary cast of the show included Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell and Renée Elise Goldsberry. Following its second cancellation, Philipps shared an emotional message.

“I am eternally grateful for this amazing show and these girls who became my sisters5eva, for Netflix giving us a chance to sing together a little bit longer and for everyone at Universal and Peacock who rooted so hard for our show,” the actress expressed via Instagram. “And of course the genius of Meredith and Jeff and Eric and my patron saint Tina Fey.”

She went on to say, “I honestly don’t know how or what i would be without this show and the endless joy it brought me in the darkest time of my life. i really really love what i do. and sometimes it feels almost impossible. anyway, isn’t that just like everything good in life? love you 5eva❤️.”

Another significant TV departure was Apple TV+’s Sunny. Adapted from the 2018 novel titled The Dark Manual, Sunny featured Rashida Jones in the role of an American woman residing in Japan who receives a domestic robot as a gift after her husband and son disappear in a plane accident.

“I wish there was a little bit more awareness about our show. Not gonna lie,” Jones mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter in September 2024, reflecting on the reception of her now-canceled series. “I think [Sunny] is finding its audience because people seem to like it and a lot of people talk to me about it. What [Apple] do have is they have really good taste, and they do make really good shows.”

The actress acknowledged the streaming platform for allowing a weekly release schedule. “I know it’s old school and not everybody does it, but I do think that [staggered release] format lends itself to the show nicely,” Jones added. “I’m sure there’s some people who are waiting to start the show when all of [the episodes] are out, because they’re used to that pace. But I do feel like there’s a lot of little things that are dropped along the way that you want to maybe sit with for a little bit before you plunge into the end.”

Jones also fielded questions regarding the unresolved plot points.

“That is very much the hope and it’s kind of set up that way, which I don’t think we’re spoiling anything for anybody by saying there’s things you’re going to want to know at the end,” she stated. “Did you feel like you were left hanging, did you feel like you were satisfied as well?”
