Local authorities report that an American man was discovered deceased on the island of Tobago, seemingly from stab wounds.

A local police report indicates that Christopher Brown, 43, of Silverthorne, Colorado, was found unresponsive in Tobago with stab wounds and a metal object in his back.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service stated that Brown was with friends in Castara, a coastal village on Tobago’s leeward side, having dinner and drinks. Local police say Brown then departed, informing his friends of his intention to purchase marijuana.

Local police responded to a report of Brown being discovered unconscious at 10:30 p.m. on Depot Road in Castara and was subsequently declared dead.

A suspect has been apprehended, according to local authorities.

Trinidad and Tobago Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro told The Associated Press, “I can confirm that a suspect is presently in custody.”

The Tobago Division of Tourism assures the public about the village’s safety.
