Thinking Machines Lab, the artificial intelligence startup spearheaded by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has seen one of its co-creators depart for Meta.
According to The Wall Street Journal, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch communicated his exit to staff in a message last Friday. A representative for Thinking Machine Labs verified Tulloch’s exit to the WSJ, stating he “has chosen to follow a new direction for individual reasons.”
The WSJ previously reported in August that Mark Zuckerberg’s intense AI hiring push involved a proposal to buy Thinking Machines Lab — and after that fell through, Zuckerberg apparently attempted to entice Tulloch with a remuneration deal potentially valued at $1.5 billion across a minimum of six years. (Then, a Meta representative commented that the WSJ’s account of the proposition was “incorrect and absurd.”)
Tulloch formerly held positions at OpenAI and Facebook’s AI Research Group.
