Chris Pratt is sharing a glimpse into some of the holly, jolly topics he discussed with Katherine Schwarzenegger during premarital counseling.
“We did, like, six sessions with this guy who was, by the way, the best thing in the world,” Pratt, 46, shared on the Friday, February 6, episode of SiriusXM’s “Literally! With Rob Lowe” podcast. “If you’re somebody who’s thinking of getting married, you should definitely follow this.”
In June 2019, Pratt and Schwarzenegger, 36, got married at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. They also had a ceremony at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Los Angeles.
In the weeks before the religious ceremony took place, Pratt said he and his wife were asked questions in counseling that “you would not even think to answer until you have been married for eight years, and then something comes up and you’re like, ‘What do you mean?’”
“We came up with this whole list of directives that we were gonna have in our partnership and in our wedding,” Pratt explained to podcast host Rob Lowe. “One of them was that we were gonna play Christmas music on November 1, and that we were gonna take the Christmas tree down on December 26th. We talked about it beforehand, so now we’re on board.”

More than six years after getting married, things appear to be working. Pratt and Schwarzenegger remain committed to one another as they raise their family in Southern California. (The couple share Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 14 months. Pratt is also the father of Jack, 13, with ex-wife Anna Faris.)
“It’s like the 300 potential landmines and [you] diffuse them beforehand,” Pratt shared when describing his premarital counseling. “That way, if you have an issue, you talk about it and you hash it out, every single one. If you agree on it, you move on. But if there’s things you disagree on, you hash it out and you do the work to figure out why are you coming from this?”

The Mercy actor said the therapist is “basically diffusing a bomb, but in a way that’s not gonna cause an argument or a fight.”
“A lot of this stuff can make you angry or upset or triggered or whatever,” Pratt explained. “So I definitely recommend it for anybody. … It’s a great gift to give your potential spouse.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star has been open about his faith over the years. In December 2025, Pratt penned an essay for his mother-in-law Maria Shriver’s The Sunday Paper, where he recalled the moments of God’s grace.
Last summer, Pratt marked six years of marriage with his wife by sharing a heartfelt message on their shared beliefs.
“6 years ago today, I married my best friend. You’ve shown me what love, grace and strength look like,” Pratt wrote via Instagram in June 2025. “Thank you for making this life so full of joy, family and faith. Happy Anniversary, Darling!”
In her own separate post, Schwarzenegger added, “6 years of love, fun and babies! I love it all— happy anniversary 🤍.”
