Flock Safety, known for its camera systems for law enforcement, is promoting its new Flock Aerodome Drone as an Automated Security system for private use. The concept is straightforward: if a theft occurs, a drone takes off, tracks the suspect, and sends live video to security teams or even the police. With theft rates rising a reported 93% in 2024, the demand for advanced security is higher than ever.

Instead of sending a guard, Flock’s drones could launch within seconds of detecting motion. Using HD and thermal cameras, the drones can zoom in, follow suspects, and transmit real-time images.
The company states that the system:
Theoretically, the drones serve as a “guard in the sky,” giving retailers quick coverage over large areas like malls, warehouses, or ports.

Organized retail crime is a growing concern. Retailers are reporting increased losses, tighter budgets, and fewer available staff. Flock Safety claims its drone system can deter crime simply by being visible, making criminals hesitate before targeting a store. Besides retail, the company is also offering its drones to operators of hospitals, warehouses, and energy facilities that need large-scale monitoring.

For shoppers, this could mean going to stores where drones are part of the security setup. You might see them above at malls or parking areas, watching for suspicious activity. For retailers, drones could help protect profits, staff, and customers without the increasing expenses of hiring more guards. But whether customers will accept drones flying around is yet to be seen.
