Love Is Blind’s Alex Explains Why He Didn’t Walk Mom Down Wedding Aisle

Love Is Blind’s Alex Henderson was certain that he wouldn’t marry Ashley Carpenter, so he skipped several traditions on their would-be big day.

“Some of that was actually on purpose on my end,” Alex, 31, said on the Thursday, March 12, episode of the “Viall Files” podcast, when asked about his unkempt wedding  beard. “I did think ahead of time because I did have a conversation with Ashley that it was going to be a no.”

After realizing he had no intentions of marrying Ashley, 34, the former soccer star decided to save some milestones for his actual nuptials.

“This was not my real wedding, and I want to save something for my wife — my real wife,” he explained. “I didn’t walk my mom down the aisle for a reason, I didn’t shave for a reason, I didn’t go to the barber for a reason. Yes, [my suit] jacket is two sizes too big. It’s a trench coat, realistically, and I didn’t really fix that for a reason.”

Alex proposed to Ashley sight unseen in Love Is Blind season 10, which was filmed in February 2025 and aired the next year on Netflix. The pair ultimately broke up at the altar.

While speaking with podcast host Nick Viall, Alex further denied social media speculation that he went through with the wedding ceremony in protest via his unshaven beard and too-large tux.

“It was more [that] I do want to save some things for my actual wife,” he stated. “I do think actually walking my mom down the aisle and showing up correctly is something that I do want to actually have in my real wedding. I knew ahead of time this wasn’t going to be it.”

Alex and Ashley reunited at the season 10 reunion, which aired Wednesday, March 11, as they rehashed their breakup.

“We haven’t spoken since then,” Alex exclusively told Us Weekly about where he stands with his ex-fiancée. “We were very cordial, like, on stage. [We were] friendly, even just behind the scenes, just, ‘Hey, how are you?’”

He continued, “We both, I think, knock on wood, wish for the best of each other. I know it’s how it is on my end for her, so I think it was pretty solid there.”

As for Ashley, she told Us in a separate interview that she and Alex are merely “acquaintances.”

“We’re not enemies,” Ashley revealed after the reunion. “There will probably never be anything romantic [but] we’re good, though. No ill will, we just weren’t a match. We went through this crazy experience together, so we’ll always kind of have that.”

Love Is Blind is now streaming on Netflix.
