Philadelphia endures brutal sports night, experiencing its first 'triple loss' in over 40 years.

Lottery tickets should be avoided by those living in Philadelphia.

Thursday night featured three local sports teams in action, at one point all competing simultaneously, and they all suffered defeats.

The Phillies’ National League Division Series game against the Los Angeles Dodgers was arguably the most crucial, as a victory would have forced a decisive Game 5 back in Philadelphia on Saturday after being down 2-0 in the series.

Despite going to extra innings, a bad throw following a questionable decision by Orion Kerkering sent the Dodgers to the National League Championship Series, bringing the Phillies’ season to an end.

This transpired as the Eagles trailed the New York Giants at halftime, but the G-Men elevated their play with three touchdowns from rookie running back Cam Skattebo, securing a 34-17 victory. It marked the Giants’ first Thursday night win since 2015 and only their fourth triumph in the last 22 encounters against the Eagles, including playoff matchups.

Adding insult to injury, the Flyers were defeated by the Florida Panthers, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions, in their season opener.

According to Bob Ventrone Jr., this occasion marked the eighth instance of the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers all competing on the same day, and the first time they had all lost since Oct. 16, 1983. This was also the first time they had all played since 1993.

In 1991, the Flyers managed to salvage the day with a tie against the Pittsburgh Penguins after the Phillies lost to the New York Mets, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers narrowly defeated the Eagles.

Oct. 19, 1980, remains the only day when they all emerged victorious.

A day when all four teams (including the 76ers) have played on the same day has never occurred.

At the very least, the locals can still revel in their Super Bowl championship, but the Eagles have now suffered two consecutive losses and do not resemble their performance from the previous season.
