Seattle authorities reported that an 88-year-old woman is in the hospital with significant injuries after a violent robbery where a man bit off her finger and stole her jewelry.

The incident occurred on Oct. 13 on the 9900 block of 64th Avenue South in Rainier Beach, Seattle. Police made public surveillance images of the suspect this week. The Seattle Police Department described him in a news release as a man in his 30s.

According to reports, the woman was on her back porch tidying up when the suspect came up to her and demanded her possessions.

Police stated that when she resisted, the man “brutally assaulted” her, dragging her into her garage where the assault continued.

The release noted, “During the incident, the man stole the victim’s jewelry and bit off her finger.” “She was then admitted to the hospital by doctors due to serious head injuries.”

The victim yelled for help and later informed officers that she believed he “was going to try to kill her,” according to the police.

Police reported that she was transported to Harborview Medical Center in “serious, but stable” condition.

The news release stated that Seattle police, together with officers from Burien, Tukwila, and the King County Sheriff’s Office, searched the vicinity for the suspect, but he is still at large.
