Roblox CEO faces tough questions regarding child safety in contentious interview

Dave Baszuki, the CEO of Roblox, appeared on The New York Times’ Hard Fork podcast to chat about the gaming platform’s fresh age verification capability; however, he appeared to grow impatient with the quantity of questions centering on child safety.

Baszuki started the interview by outlining the feature, which will mandate that all users who wish to use Roblox’s messaging tools submit a face scan. But by the time he was questioned about a story claiming that the business had valued growth over safety, Baszuki appeared to grow weary of the subject, responding, “Fun. Let’s continue with this.”

And when Kevin Roose, the co-host, concurred that enhancing its AI models was among the most effective strategies for Roblox to improve child safety, Baszuki asserted, “Good, so you’re agreeing with what we did. High-five.”

“And I want to emphasize that I came here because I enjoy your podcast and wanted to discuss everything,” he continued. “So, if our PR staff suggested, ‘Let’s discuss age-gating for an hour,’ I’m game, but I enjoy your pod. I believed I was here to talk about everything.”
