At the conclusion of the Apple TV program “Pluribus,” viewers might have spotted a peculiar statement in the end credits: “This show was made by humans.”
This succinct message — positioned just after a statement ensuring “animal wranglers were on set to ensure animal safety” — could serve as an example for other filmmakers wanting to emphasize that generative AI was not used in their work.
If the disclaimer wasn’t sufficiently explicit, Vince Gilligan (renowned for “Breaking Bad”), the show’s creator, expressed himself more forcefully in a Variety article, stating bluntly, “I hate AI.”
He described the technology as “the world’s most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine” and likened AI-produced content to “a cow chewing its cud — an endlessly regurgitated loop of nonsense.”
“Thank you, Silicon Valley!” he continued. “Yet again, you’ve f—ed up the world.”
“Pluribus” marks the return of the former “X-Files” writer to the science fiction genre, reuniting him with Rhea Seehorn from “Better Call Saul,” who portrays a romantasy writer dealing with an alien invasion.
