Trump suggests CBS News could improve under new ownership.

During a Wednesday White House roundtable discussion, President Donald Trump said that CBS has “hope” under a “great new owner.”

Trump was the host of what was dubbed an “Antifa Roundtable” with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and a number of right-leaning and independent media figures. The journalists talked about their personal experiences with the radical left-wing group, which Trump recently designated as a domestic terror organization.

The journalists also used the occasion to criticize mainstream media sources for either ignoring Antifa stories or misreporting events, such as CNN’s “fiery but mostly peaceful protests” chyron from the 2020 riots.

Trump echoed their critiques, even claiming that Antifa collaborates with certain media outlets. He continued by criticizing additional media sources, but he voiced optimism for CBS.

“I think ABC is very bad,” Trump stated. “NBC, I think, is terrible. And CBS has a new owner, so we have hope for CBS. In my opinion, CBS has a great new owner. But, as I will tell you, ABC is terrible. NBC is terrible. MSNBC is also. They legally changed it, you know, to avoid being tainted by the words ‘MSNBC,’ but they are absolutely terrible there, many of them.”

Trump is likely alluding to the recent merger in August between Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company, and Skydance Media. David Ellison, the CEO of Skydance, is now in charge of both firms and has designated CBS News as one of his top new objectives.

One of Ellison’s significant changes was the appointment of Bari Weiss as CBS News’ editor-in-chief following Paramount’s acquisition of her media firm, The Free Press. Weiss will work with Tom Cibrowski, the current president of CBS News, and will report to Ellison directly.

Fox News Digital contacted CBS and Paramount for comment.

Trump questioned some of the journalists during the roundtable about which networks they thought were the worst offenders. He concurred with one who rated MSNBC as the worst, followed by CNN.

“MSNBC. It’s a disgrace that Brian Roberts allows it to happen. And CNN is second. I would say CNN is not quite as awful as MSNBC. MSNBC is sick,” Trump remarked.
