Ant Anstead Deals With Detached Muscle and Additional Injuries Following Soccer Incident

Ant Anstead is recovering from a “freak” accident sustained during sports.

The Celebrity IOU: Joyride personality, 46, told his Instagram followers on Saturday, November 1, that he’s now prioritizing his well-being after a string of unfortunate events, including enduring several major injuries from a soccer incident.

“October can officially go away! Three close and beloved friends received terrible diagnosis [sic]! It prompted me to examine my health more closely, and I explored many avenues…. Diet, peptides, body scans, vitamins etc etc,” Anstead shared. “Then WHAMMO!! A freak footy accident and I detached my pectoral muscle and tore my rotator cuff and labrum!”

The TV presenter acknowledged that his athletic injuries are compelling him to take some much-needed downtime.

“Surgery now complete and I am forced to rest (which I don’t do well)….! So I’m taking it as a sign,” he added. “And I am going back down the health rabbit hole as I’m in the age group where I need to take this stuff more seriously! And be Healthier and kinder to my body. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.”

Many of Anstead’s well-known friends shared their support, including race car driver Chris Buncombe who commented: “Ah mate so sorry to hear this. Get well.”

Many were amused that Anstead still found the energy to share a shirtless photo in his underwear despite his injuries.

“Rest up,” singer Imelda May replied. “But I mean you have to work on those tights mate! Fishnets would up your game. 🔥 Get well soon X.”

Anstead’s unfortunate health challenges follow his reunion with former spouse Christina Haack at their son Hudson’s school parent-teacher conference. Alongside sharing photos from the family’s day, he reassured Instagram followers that “Hudzo is thriving” in school.

“We doing a great job with this little chap! Nice work mum,” he communicated to Haack.

During an HGTV’s The Flip Off, episode in February, Haack recounted Anstead’s support following her most recent split from Josh Hall. (Haack was initially married to Flip or Flop co-star Tarek El Moussa from 2009 to 2018, with whom she shares daughter Taylor, 15, and son Brayden, 10. Tarek is now married to Selling Sunset alumna Heather Rae El Moussa, and they have a 2-year-old son, Tristan.)

“Ant and I split up when Hudson was 1 and now he is 5. Between the time of his first birthday and fifth, we did not communicate a lot,” she stated.

The Christina on the Coast personality, 42, continued, “After Josh and I split up, I went over to his house to pick up Hudson and he gave me a huge hug. We hadn’t hugged in years and he said, ‘I am so sorry for everything you are going through and I am here for you no matter what you need.’ It was a very nice moment and we had a very long talk after. We decided to put all the BS aside and be good coparents.”

Anstead has two children — daughter Amelie, 21, and son Archie, 18 — with his first wife Louise Storey, whom he was married to from 2005 to 2017. He and Haack, 42, share their son Hudson, 6, from their three-year marriage, which ended in divorce in 2021.

He began a relationship with two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger in 2021, after the actress was a guest on his Discovery+ show Celebrity IOU: Joyride.

Earlier this year, Anstead’s representative dismissed claims that he and Zellweger were living apart as “disrespectful and misleading.” The rumors began when Anstead was reported to have been staying with a woman named Julia French in California.

His rep informed People that Anstead “stayed just a handful of days in Julia French’s separate, and detached, guest house” because they were longtime friends, before confirming that the TV personality was still “in a cherished relationship” with Zellweger. (Zellweger was filming Only Murders in the Building in New York City at the time.)
