Almost a year after his wife Hailey Bieber gave birth, Justin Bieber is reflecting on the experience.
“My emotions get amplified. I also didn’t want my moment as the dad to be overshadowed,” Justin, 31, said, looking back on a conversation in the delivery room with Hailey’s midwife during a recent Twitch livestream. “Like, I’m involved too. There were times when I felt the need to comfort Hailey, and I felt like she was sidelining me so she could handle it herself.”
He added, “I have good instincts. Being a dad and being present is instinctive. [The midwife] was supposed to facilitate in areas where I’m not knowledgeable.”
Justin and Hailey, 28, welcomed their son, Jack Blues, in August 2024.
“Giving birth was the most difficult thing I’ve ever experienced,” Hailey revealed to Vogue in a May profile, noting that she dedicated her entire nine-month pregnancy to preparing for childbirth. “I was committed to it. I was doing all the right things. I felt physically stronger than ever.”
Hailey was ultimately induced at 39 weeks when she started leaking amniotic fluid.
“That was such a wild experience. It was not enjoyable,” she told the publication regarding her 18-hour labor. “They broke my water. Labor started, and I labored for several hours. No epidural or anything.”
Hailey experienced a postpartum hemorrhage after Jack’s safe arrival.
“[It] was a little frightening,” she remembered. “I trust my doctor implicitly, so I was confident that she would never allow anything to harm me. However, I was bleeding profusely, and the thought that people die from this crossed my mind.”
To manage the bleeding, Hailey’s doctors eventually used a Jada device, a vacuum device intended to induce uterine contractions.
Hailey and the Swag singer reveled in their new life as a family of three in the days following her delivery.
“They are in total bliss,” a source exclusively informed Us Weekly at the time. “Hailey is relishing and cherishing these first moments as a new mother. She is ecstatic and completely immersed in being a mom, focused entirely on the baby’s well-being.”
According to the insider, Justin was just as “overjoyed” about the arrival of their baby boy.
“[He is] very involved,” the source revealed to Us. “Many things will evolve. He’s a father now and will be significantly more private, protective, and family-focused.”
Alongside the joys of becoming parents, Hailey also openly acknowledged the challenges of her postpartum new normal.
“Every day, I have to reassure myself, like, ‘Hailey, you’ve had a baby,’” she shared with Vogue. “’You grew a human. You delivered a human. It’s alright. Be kind to yourself. Allow yourself time.’ When people mention ‘bouncing back’ — returning to what, because my hips are wider, and my breasts are actually larger than before. They haven’t returned to their original size, which is fine, I’ll embrace it, but it’s not the same body I had before.”
She went on, “You’re not the person you once were. You change completely. And there was a point where I kept fixating on getting back to my old self. Then I had to accept that ‘I’m not going back.’ So now it’s about, ‘How do I want to progress? Who do I aspire to be?’”
