After police said he murdered his wife at their house the previous week, a Texas man has been apprehended.

According to the Alvarado Police Department, Chelsea Spillers, 33, was slain in her Alvarado, Texas, home on Saturday, Oct. 18, in what authorities are calling an “unexplained death” investigation.

FOX 4 reported that detectives discovered Spillers’ body while responding to a request to check on the welfare of the high school biology teacher at her residence.

According to preliminary evidence and a coroner’s report, investigators now think that her husband, Brandon Ashley, was to blame for her death, which was brought on by blunt force trauma, the outlet reported.

According to a statement from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, authorities got reports on Monday that a shirtless man was trespassing at a home in Bedias, which is located about 150 miles south of Alvarado, the day before.

According to authorities, the individual, who was later determined to be Ashley, was allegedly having a mental health crisis while walking on private property on Sunday morning. According to the department, he was also seen knocking on neighbors’ doors in search of a shirt and allegedly making remarks about avoiding a nearby highway because there were “too many cops.”

Deputies discovered after his arrest that Ashley was wanted in Johnson County for Spillers’ alleged murder.

According to FOX 4, Alvarado police stated in an update that “the police department would like to remind the public that an arrest is not a conviction, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.” “The investigation is still ongoing as the case is being prepared for submission to the District Attorney’s office.”
