The Blue Jays defeated the Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series, with Shohei Ohtani hitting his first-ever Fall Classic home run.

The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-4 in the World Series Game 1 matchup Friday night at Rogers Centre.

Los Angeles took an early 2-0 advantage with scores in the second and third innings; however, Toronto evened the score in the fourth with a two-run home run from Dalton Varsho.

Subsequently, the Blue Jays appeared to secure the game with a nine-run sixth inning, highlighted by Addison Barger’s historic first pinch-hit grand slam in a World Series.

Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani then slugged his first career World Series home run in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough for Los Angeles. 

Prior to the game, Ohtani was met with boos from the Blue Jays faithful. 

By the ninth inning, the Toronto fans joined in a chorus, chanting, “we don’t need him!”

The Dodgers will try to even the series on Saturday night, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitching against Toronto’s Kevin Gausman.
