Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice gets his first touchdown after returning from suspension

Rashee Rice, the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver, found the end zone early in Sunday’s game versus the Las Vegas Raiders, marking his return to the NFL after a suspension.

During the Chiefs’ initial drive of their Week 7 game, Rice hauled in a shovel pass from Patrick Mahomes, resulting in a 2-yard touchdown that put Kansas City ahead 7-0.

The wide receiver, in his third year, had been serving a six-game suspension related to his involvement in a Dallas traffic accident in 2024. He entered a guilty plea to two felony counts stemming from the crash, specifically “collision involving serious bodily injury” and “racing on a highway causing bodily injury.”

According to Dallas authorities, Rice has already paid over $115,000 in restitution to the people hurt in the wreck, and the 30-day jail sentence he received can be fulfilled anytime within his five-year probationary period.

Rice also had a torn ACL in Week 4 of the prior year after running into Mahomes after an interception. Following his recovery, he was able to participate in training camp. However, once the season got underway, he stayed away from the team as part of the agreement he made when his suspension was determined.

He stated earlier in the week how excited he was to play in his first game in over a year.

“I’ve been looking forward to this. I think it’s been 380-something days since I have played in a regular-season game,” he said.

In his 2023 rookie season, Rice recorded 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. The Chiefs were Super Bowl champions that year.
