However, you can experience scares and startling moments from the comfort of your own home, thanks to the availability of outstanding films on streaming platforms.
Watch With Us has curated a selection of three movies akin to Black Phone 2, accessible on major streaming services.
Our selections include a reimagining of a classic horror film, another creation from the Black Phone team, and a strikingly unique movie.
‘When a Stranger Calls’ (2006)
When a Stranger Calls is a remake of the 1979 horror film bearing the same title, renowned for one of the genre’s most unforgettable plot twists. This twist is replicated in the remake. Camilla Belle stars as Jill Johnson, a teenage babysitter looking after two children, Allison (Madeline Carroll) and Will Mandrakis (Arthur Young), when she starts to receive unsettling phone calls.
The Stranger (voiced by the iconic Lance Henriksen) takes pleasure in terrorizing Jill with progressively threatening messages. She is unable to simply flee, as she must safeguard the children. The Stranger also appears to be aware of Jill’s every action, and he might be nearer than she suspects.
When a Stranger Calls can be streamed on Netflix.
‘Sinister’ (2012)
Sinister saw Scott Derrickson, the director of The Black Phone, and star Ethan Hawke working together previously. Hawke plays Ellison Oswalt in this film, a true crime author trying to revive his career. Ellison kept it from his family that their new residence was chosen because it was the site of the Stevenson family’s murder years ago.
Ellison believes he has found what he is searching for after finding hidden film reels of the Stevenson killings and other murders. He certainly did, and he also came across a supernatural being named Bughuul (Nicholas King), whom he has inadvertently invited into his life to torment him and his family.
Sinister is available to stream on Hulu.
‘Don’t Breathe’ (2014)
Fede Álvarez, the director of Alien: Romulus and the Evil Dead remake, took a distinctive tack with his original horror film, Don’t Breathe. There are no elements of the supernatural or science fiction/fantasy in this narrative. Instead, it revolves around three burglars — Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex (Dylan Minnette), and Money (Daniel Zovatto) — who selected the incorrect target for a home invasion.
The homeowner is Norman Nordstrom (Stephen Lang), a blind Gulf War veteran who is considerably more dangerous than the criminals could have imagined. His senses are so heightened that they are unable to use his impairment against him. Once they are imprisoned in his house, Nordstrom has no intention of allowing the men to leave alive. And he has another sinister plan for Rocky. That compels this anti-heroine to unearth her inner strength to become a final girl, or she will never leave the house.
Don’t Breathe is available to stream on Peacock.
