Reddit broadens its AI-enhanced search feature to encompass five additional languages.

On Thursday, Reddit revealed that its AI-driven search capability is now available in five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. The function is now accessible in nations such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy because of this growth.

Users who have chosen one of these languages as their primary language, rather than English, are now able to communicate with the AI using a question-and-answer format. The feature is powered by a Google AI model.

Reddit initially introduced AI-powered search the previous year and has been striving to broaden it in various ways. The functionality is a component of Reddit Answers, which coexists with the platform’s conventional search.

Reddit’s CEO, Steve Huffman, stated in August that Reddit search has over 70 million active weekly users, while Reddit Answers has over 6 million users. During the company’s quarterly earnings call, he also addressed intentions to integrate the search experience.

Since ChatGPT included web search, Q&A-style search and chat interfaces have grown in popularity. To increase user engagement and retention, established search engines like Google and Brave have added comparable features. With chat-based search interfaces, up-and-coming businesses like Perplexity have also gained traction.
