Dancing With the Stars performer Mark Ballas is sharing the behind-the-scenes of choosing songs before the program’s much-awaited Wicked Night.
In a TikTok that was posted on Sunday, October 19, Ballas, 39, made light of the supporters who assumed he received his top selection, writing, “How some of you think I am in the DWTS music meetings.” Ballas lip-synched to a scene from the film Hook with the quote, “I want a cookie, I want to potty, I want, I want, I want, me, me, me, mine, mine, mine, now, now, now.”
The expert dancer went into greater detail in the caption.
“All jokes aside here were my Wicked requests in order ✨ 1, ‘For good’ switching to 6/8 timing could be beautiful for V Waltz,” he penned. “2, The Wizard & I, ‘We already did foxtrot so maybe Jazz’?’”
Ballas added: “3, What is this feeling, ‘we already did Foxtrot so maybe Jazz’? 4, Popular ‘could be a cute Quickstep but.. ‘the tempo needs to be more consistent which the band can make happen’ But honestly this is one of my FAVORITE shows of all time and I’d be happy with any song. I LOVE the music so much 🫶🏼.”
Eventually, Ballas and his partner Whitney Leavitt performed a quickstep to Ariana Grande’s rendition of “Popular.”
Other DWTS pros joined in the fun in the comments, with Ezra Sosa writing, “Wait…we can have MUSIC MEETINGS?! 💀💀.” Emma Slater jumped in, replying, “Not that we have music meetings mind you 😂😂😂😂.”
Ballas initially became a member of DWTS in 2007 and was a contestant for 10 seasons before taking some time off. Following season 25, he left but made a comeback in 2022, taking home the season 31 title alongside partner Charli D’Amelio. Ballas mentioned he wasn’t certain how much longer he would be on Dancing With the Stars after winning the mirrorball trophy.

“I’m not sure [if I’m coming back],” he exclusively revealed to Us Weekly in November of 2022. “You know, as I get older, I make an effort to stay present in the moment, and I feel that was a significant element of creating these dances.”
He went on to say: “Every week … I tried to incorporate every aspect of creativity, consideration, musicality, and nuance into each one. I believe you can only achieve that by being totally present in the moment each time. So, right now, I’m in this moment with Charli, and … my body couldn’t even begin to imagine doing this [in] six months, so I’ll let you know later on.”
Ballas verified in March of 2023 that he was formally hanging up his DWTS shoes. “I’ve now completed 20 seasons. When I was 21 or 22, I started this adventure, and honestly, being able to dance and perform for you fans — you guys are the best fans,” he stated while on the DWTS tour in Las Vegas.
Following a two-year break, Ballas came back for season 34 this fall, and he is open to staying for future seasons.
He told Us in September that “I had some injury concerns that were kind of holding me back” regarding his return to the show, adding that his body is “feeling well” after undergoing some “intense” physical therapy. “I adore the show, and since I quit, I’ve had the chance to perform on it a couple of times. I got to perform the incredible tango with Derek [Hough], and me and Charli took a victory lap. I was a guest judge the previous year. … I’m like, ‘I believe I still have a few more in me.’ I want my son to see me perform this.”
Dancing With the Stars is broadcast on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes accessible to stream on Hulu the following day.
